“Escape”

Dimensions: 80” x 66”

Medium: Oil on canvas and lace fabric

Artist: Greg Busch

A body in motion, blurred and weightless, suspended between memory and disappearance. The words “promises” and “escape” are stitched like ghosts across the lace surface—repeating, overlapping, fading. This isn’t just an image; it’s a whisper.

In “Escape,” Busch renders the emotional residue of a person trying to outrun something they can't name. The lace, soft yet suffocating, wraps the canvas in contradiction—comforting and constraining all at once. There is no clear edge between the figure and its environment, only a suggestion of self slipping out of reach.

It’s not freedom that’s captured here, but the ache for it. A longing so deep it becomes atmospheric—felt more than seen.

This work is less a portrait and more a trace of movement, of hope, of promises made and broken.
