“Cistern 1”

Dimensions: 61” x 61”

Medium: Resin on wood panel and oil on wood panel

Artist: Greg Busch

A single egg floats—centered, silent—against a vast, burnished abyss. In Cistern 1, Greg Busch returns to the motif of origin, but this time stripped of context, cradled only by shadow and suggestion.

The scale is monumental. The space is void-like. The object: embryonic. What once symbolized life or hatching is now suspended in a space that feels both ancient and cosmic. The title Cistern evokes containment—something once filled, something meant to hold life, memory, or potential. But here, it is emptied of narrative. The egg remains unbroken.

The use of resin creates a glassy, submerged quality, echoing themes of preservation and isolation. Busch’s minimalism is intentional: forcing the viewer to confront what remains when all else is stripped away.
